I have always been an artistic person with a creative drive. My focus for many years was in fiber art and studied with many nationally known fiber artists. I enjoyed the challenge of national competitions and was juried into many shows receiving numerous awards, but I felt too confined in that medium.
I began painting again in 2005 and studied with local teachers Jim Glover, Charles Rowland, Meredith Martin and Stan Pierce. I have studied with nationally known artists Stan Sperlak, Kim Casebeer, and Michael Chesley Johnson.
I felt my skills were fairly good in drawing and illustrating, but wanted to learn to manipulate each painting medium. I paint in oils and have had some success, but pastels are still my favorite medium. I had been intrigued with the qualities of pastels since high school and thoroughly enjoy the instant gratification of selecting just the right color from the array of pastel sticks and applying the buttery soft pigment to the surface. I've begun experimenting preparing my own textured surfaces for my pastel pieces which brings an interesting nuance to the finished painting. I have been able to paint very realistically with both oils and pastels and been quite lucky to have received numerous awards. My goal now is to paint more impressionistic in style.
I exhibit regularly at numerous central Ohio venues, including Anthem Insurance, Market Mortgage, Worthington United Methodist Church, High Road Gallery, Church at Mill Run, Sunbear Studio, and the McConnell Arts Center. I am an active member of three local art groups; Worthington Area Art League, Ohio Pastel Artists League, and Central Ohio Plein Air. I greatly enjoy my time spent 'en plein air’ (painting in the open air). It combines two of my favorite things – being in nature and creating my artwork. As I did in my fiber art and now in my paintings, I create my art not to tell a story or evoke a response, but just to delight the eye. I am just enjoying creating and am having lots of fun!
